Journal Two by Ashleigh Campagne

Hello, my name is Ashleigh Campagne. I’m from Chillicothe, Ohio but was born and raised in Port Charlotte, Florida. I’m 18 years old and graduated from Paint Valley High School and of course now attending The Ohio State University at Marion to study Radiological Sciences and Technology. I am the daughter of my two loving parents Danielle and Frank. I have 6 siblings in total but some are step and half. I have two younger brothers and three younger sisters. I lived in Florida for ten years, and moved to Ohio in the 5th grade. I’ll tell you a little bit more about the background of why I moved from Florida to Ohio. My mother had sacrificed leaving her family behind in Ohio to be with my father down in Florida, my whole dads family lives down in Florida, well my mom you can say got tired of living down in Florida away from her family so they decided to move up to Ohio and that’s how I ended up here, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. The only thing I miss about living in Florida would be the beaches and warm weather.

The theme that most stood out to me in the book The House on Mango Street is when Esperanza very first at the beginning for the book explain how Mama and Papa would talk about the kind of house that they were always wanting to have. I feel this is important because it shows how they all dream for their lives to be successful but that’s not how it always turns out, this stood out to me because in my own personal life I have had moments where I thought I was going to be successful or things were going in a good direction for me but it just never happened.

  1. I agree with Ashleigh because life gives you ups and downs. It is how you overcome them to be successful. Later on in the House of Mango, Esperanza saves money to buy things she wants. One example is seen when two girls are saying $5 dollars for a new bike. Esperanza goes into her house and gets the money she has saved up to make the purchase. She got the new bike, and two new friends. She was successful.

  2. I agree! I feel like everyone has has a similar experience with always hoping or expecting the best but things go completely different and not as planned. I believe that's how people grow so I'm excited to see how Esperanza grows throughout the book.

  3. I also agree, I myself have had ups and downs but someone once told me that the down times help you grow and help the downs to become ups

  4. Awesome introduction Ashleigh! It is so crazy because my mother was born in Florida as well.
