My
name is Taylor Bellomo and I am in my third year here at Ohio State Marion. I
have lived in Medina, Ohio since I was a little girl. I am a huge family person so I spend majority of my time with them
when I’m not living in Marion during the school year. During the summer when i'm not working or hanging out with family or friends, I am most likely taking a nap. So, during the school year when i'm not doing homework or studying I am most definitely taking a nap.
One theme that I have seen so far in The House On Mango Street is aspiration. It is clear that Esperanza knows what kind of woman she wants to be while growing up. How she wants to be her own person, create her own life, etc. When she begins to tell the readers what her name means and where she got it from, her grandmother, you can really feel how she aspires to be or how she aspires to not be when she's older. She tells the readers how her grandmother looked out the window her whole life and used the words, "the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow." (Cisneros, pg. 11). She then states, "Esperanza. I have inherited her name, but I don't want to inherit her place by the window" (Cisneros, pg.11). That statement proves that she knows she deserves much better than what she sees the woman in her family receiving and shows she won't settle for anything less.

I was thinking the same thing while reading that chapter!! She also writes about how she is different from the other people in her family and how she is very independent in the other chapters. Which tells us a lot about her in the beginning of the book and gives us an understanding where she is coming from.
