Hi, my name is William Cochrane. I don’t
normally go by William and instead I go by just Will. I live in Plain City Ohio and went to Fairbanks High School in Milford Center Ohio. I am now attending The Ohio State University at Marion and majoring in computer science and engineering. I am the son of two great
parents, Kathy and Bill. I have two older siblings, my bother and my sister. I played football for 10 years total and ran track for 6 years total. I definitely favored track over football do the fact that I was better at track than I was at football. I’ve always been a big OSU fan and I’m very happy I’m attending the university.
The themes that stood out the most in this portion of the book, The House On Mango Street, are desire and ambition theme. I saw this in Esperanza because she seemed to want to be independent. In the first chapters “ The House on Mango Street” Esperanza talks about her house and describes what it looks like. Esperanza then proceeds to say that she wants a real house and is already thinking about her future house. In the chapter “ My Name” at the end she talks about how she does not feel fit to her name and would want a new name if she had the choice. I thought this to be very interesting to me because I too like to feel independent like Esperanza does. The passage in “My Name” where she talks about baptizing herself and giving herself a new name something that fits her was my favorite passage because it was interesting that she did not like her name and wanted to change hers. I just thought this was interesting because I know I would never change my name.
