Hello, my name is David Gray and I am 18 years old. I enjoy winter and running during the fall. Ive been working at Krogers for over three years now and I am a freshman at The Ohio State Marion. I also enjoy listening to music and jamming out because it just clears my mind when I am stressed.
Here is a photo of me when I just got my new bifocals. I’m still getting used to the new far and near line.
While reading The House On Mango Street. So far it is pretty clear that Esperanza is fed up from moving place to place to place! Every time that they all move, “it seems like there’d be one more member of the family” Esperanza says. With all of the moving, and with all of the new family members coming in. I can see Esperanza could be getting lost and losing herself from the start. With that being said, I think the beginning theme is to accept and find who you really are. She even talks about getting a new name and baptizing herself. Her name means hope in English and sadness in Spanish. Lastly, In school they say her name funny due to the hard syllables to say. School kids compares the syllables to tin and every time you say the name, it would hurt the top of your mouth.
I feel like this is important because you should always accept who you are and if you don’t know yourself, try new things and use trial and error to find it. If not, you are lost and you would have a nasty attitude to everything. Next, this compares to me as well because when I was about 10-14 years old. I thought everyone didn’t like me because my shape of my body or the way I act. I soon learned that I cant have fun if I worry about that, so I grew confidence, made new friends and accepted who I was. I feel extremely comfortable and confident present to future.
Lastly, my favorite quote or line Esperanza said throughout the book so far would probably be, “ One who will understand my jokes without my having to explain them. Until then I am a red balloon, a ballon tied to an anchor.” I chose this quote because it shows Esperanza real feelings it herself and its what she always dreamt for.

Hello Mr. David. I agree with the theme you brought to light in your journal. Self acceptance is the key to a successful and prosperous life. To many people tend to beat themselves up and not see the good in who they are. It is through this that people tend to forget who they really are as a person. Self positivity is the most important thing to have in today’s day in era.
