Journal 9 from Krosbi Clark

The profile I got my research question from is Food Assembly Plant: Supervisor Dorothy Glinton. Dorothy mentioned a company she worked at called GTE. GTE stands for General Telephone and Electric. I wanted to know if GTE is still a company today. I learned that GTE went out of business more than a decade ago. In the year 2000, GTE merged with another company. GTE and the other company made a new company called Verizon Communications. There were some smaller GTE companies, but they were sold off. GTE became Verizon to sum it up. This information surprised me that this story connects to a big company that is one of the biggest cell phone companies today. I learned that GTE is out of business, and how Verizon became a company.

Bell Atlantic and GTE were merged together to make Verizon.

A theme I saw in each profile was determination. Each person of all the profiles were all determined to find their passion. They all had a passion because they were determined to find what they loved to do. The profile that had the biggest impact on me was English Teacher: Ayodeji Ogunniyi. I’m going to college to become a teacher, and I loved Ayodeji’s teaching style. I like that he really connects with all of his students to make them feel cared for. I want to be a teacher that my students can come to for advice. He takes interest in his students and that’s what makes a great teacher. I hope to make an impact and inspire my future students.
