Journal nine from Kayla

The profile I used to get my research question is from Chef and Restaurateur: Lura Martinez. The profile was about how Lura’s blindness affect her job opportunities. I learned that some companies did not hire her because of her disability. I always wanted to know why people get treated differently from a disability. I learned that it was only “10 years ago that the United Nations had established rights for people with a disability.” I learned that there are countries that treat others with a disability worse then the United Sates. In the United States some employers think that a disability will hinder the work you do, so they would not hire you. “In Ghana, a third world country, there was a little girl with a disability, but her culture thought it was an evil spirit. The girl was dressed in rags, and chained up to a tree.”The United Nations is trying to advocate for more protection for people with a disability, but it is very difficulty. The only was the world would treat people with a disability equally is to fight for there rights. It takes everyone to change a societal norm.

The theme I saw in each profile is passion. Many Americans do not have a job they like. Americans mostly end up living life in routines. The profile that impacted me was Forensic Artist: Sharon long. I did not know what I wanted to do until my senior year of high school. In my senior year I took a class called Intro to Criminology. I learned what it is like to be forensic scientist, and how many subcategories there is. I found my interest in Forensic Biology. I learned that it is a lot of sciences and maths, but I do good in those subjects. I can easily relate to Sharon, and it is truly my passion to help serve justices. I feel that is the career I belong to, and will continue to have fun at my job.

  1. My research question for the profile of Laura Martinez was very similar to your question. I find it very disturbing that people with disabilities are treated so bad. We all have imperfections, no one is perfect. I feel like people forget that at times.

  2. I also used that profile it is a very inspiring story, my research was about the ADA and how they help people with disabilities. I also agree with Krosbi’s comment they way people with disabilities are treated is horrible.

  3. I do like the point that America does have it a lot better than anywhere else in the world for many castigators in life. America isn't perfect and never will be mainly in the education department but remember that America does have it the best over any other nation in the world and that's a fact.

  4. I agree with your claim that the main theme of the book is passion. Ultimately this book is littered with people who love to do there jobs despite the pay but for the joy they get out of it. Honestly I feel like a lot more people should read this book. It teaches the true lesson that money is not the key to happiness
