 My favorite chapter from the short story “The House on Mango Street” has got to be Our Good Day. In the chapter our good day there is a lot that happens and that is important. This chapter is written with indirect dialogue, meaning that there is no quotation written throughout the whole chapter and that means that this chapter is true, and is a real part of her life that was good and made her life better. In our good day, Esperanza makes to new friends that are her friends for the rest of her life. Lucy and Rachel, they are trying to find someone to help them buy a bike off of someone, and Esperanza really likes how they dressed because she could tell that they were just like her, she had the perspective that she didn’t have to impress them to be their friends and even though Cathy would be mad at her and she would probably lose her as a friend she was okay with it because she would gain two more. So, Esperanza helps Lucy and Rachel to purchase this new bike and now she has two new friends and a new bike.


My best friend Chloe had this same impression on me and Esperanza had with Lucy and Rachel. With Chloe I feel like I could just be myself around her and that it didn’t matter if she had better clothes than me or anything she still loved me and cared for me. Chloe has been my best friend since fifth grade and we still are to this day, she holds so many of my secrets and I hold so many of hers and we will always keep them for each other no matter what because we are best friends. Chloe really made me feel like I was never alone and that no matter what was going on in my life she made me believe and think that everything is going to be okay! And in life it is so important to have someone like that to be there for you because it truly makes you feel complete in life.
