For child soldiers, they have multiple rehab centers for them to grow from. A UNICEF representative, Ted Chaiban, made an excellent statement "But there are still cases of recruitment and it has to be understood that if the reintegration of child soldiers is to be successful, then new recruitment of children has to stop. With the implementation of the Action Plan, we need to see an end to child soldiers." He wants to see an end to child soldiers. There must be an end. In addition to giving therapy, education, medical care, these centers are places to try and restore their childhoods. Although all of these are crucial, the most important and effective form of rehab comes in the form of a family and a real home. Providing those two things for recovering child soldier is one of UNICEF's ultimate goals.

I did the SLRTC program and the reason why UNICEF did succeed in any form was because the UNDP decided to focus on the child solider part more than any other thing else. One reason why there isn't much publicity of it is because how unorganized the SLRTC was.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ted I would also like to see an end with child soldiers. The UNICEF is a great organization that is very helpful and has definitely changed a lot of childrens lives which is great!!!
