Journal Five by Will Cochrane

In  The House On Mango Street, the most meaningful chapter to me was My Name. This was the most meaningful because I had the most conversation with this chapter. Being young and ignorant, as all children are, Esperanza says, “ I would like to baptize myself under a new name, a name more like the real me, the one nobody sees”.I think an important theme in this chapter is self discovery. She doesn’t think her name fits her so she wants something that does. Personally I disagree with her and feel no matter what the name you are given is the name that is the real you. I believe that there is no name that can fit better for someone other than their own name. We make our name what they are by just living. This chapter definitely was the most impactful for me and made me realise our names are more than just names.
My role model was my brother. I always wanted to be around him. On my first day of kindergarten, I remember being very excited and nervous. I get off the bus and I don't know where to go. My brother sees me and grabs my hand and walked me to my classroom. Times like this remind me of what a big influence he is too me. My brother has influenced me all throughout my life. Growing up with him has shaped me to be the person I am today. I always look to him for answers and base any decision I make on “What would my brother do?”
