Journal 5 Michael McGinnis

My favorite chapter from Cisneros would have to be The Earl from Tennessee. The reason that I like this story from the book would be in one little chapter we learn so much about one character. I noticed in this story that Cisneros used such great detail and described Earl so well that it was as if we learned a lot about him. It is also my favorite story because of the ending...”They walk fast into the apartment, lock the door behind them and never stay long”(Cisneros 71). The ending to the story where we learn about Earl what he does, his “wife” and yet at the end of the story we see that Cisneros ends it with this line that makes you think of Earl as a potential shady character.

One person who I admired growing up would be my cousin Cody. My first real memories of Cody would be when I was around about 10. I believe Cody was a senior in high school and I always remember wanting to be around him at thanksgiving. I thought that he was the coolest person ever. He would always make me watch the thanksgiving football games with him. He would tell me some dumb things that he did every now and then. He would always leave out details because he didn’t want to be a bad influence. In reality though, Cody had a big influence on me. He taught me how to be kind, how to get away with breaking a plate, and most importantly he told me to never give up on yourself. I’ll never forget when he told me those 5 words. He was a role model for me and he still is one to this day.
