Journal Six- David Gray

1.) My favorite character would have to be the nurse, Esther. Esther just has a strong effect on Beah at the rehabilitation hospital. She shows him trust, and friendship. Beah even admits to himself that he loves Esther is some sort of way. Another way Esther had a big affect on Beah and me is when, she gives Beah a Walkman. This shows that she is gaining his trust, and wants Beah to understand that the war is over.
2.) At first, I was shooken up, and I thought Beah would stay the same. As it turns out, Beah realizes he is a child, not a child solders, and Beah then realizes that stuff he has done is not his fault, but he had a guilt shame as well. Yes, I would let Beah come and live right next to me because Beah got all of the help he could get, and Beah knows what is right from wrong. Beah could also scare always all of the robbers as well!
3.) One technique Ive noticed throughout the book was, Beah does a fantastic job at putter the reader in his shoes. He could be writing about walking down a empty street, but he could make it seem as if there was tons of activity.
4.) “I am not a soldier anymore; I am a child. We are all brothers and sisters. What I have learned from my experiences is that revenge is not good” (Beah 199). This is my favorite quote because, this shows Beahs beliefs and his thoughts. It also shows that Beahs rehabilitation worked! Hopefully Beah could live a normal life once again.

  1. After reading your quote that is one I actually like a lot. The typical revenge doesn't cure the pain is the reason why its true. The stages of grief are the only way one gets over something and thus why revenge never is what you expected it to be or enough.
